Being LGBTQ in the Cannabis Industry: A Roundtable Discussion

-

All eyes are on the LGBTQ community during Pride month. June often becomes full of fabulous celebrations, “woke” marketing tactics, and sometimes difficult discussions about LGBTQ rights, representation, equality, and advocacy. Weedmaps News sat down with four cannabis industry leaders — Christine De La Rosa, co-founder of The People's Dispensary in Oakland, California; Leon Mostovoy, founder of Wings of Wellness and co-founder of Pride Wellness in Los Angeles; Buck Angel, co-founder of Pride Wellness; and Katie Stem, co-founder of Peak Extracts — who identify as members of the LGBTQ community to ask them where they see the LGBTQ community's place in weed culture at large. After dozens of people across the Midwest and California were sickened as a result of vaping cannabis or e-cigarettes, consumers, vape makers, and retailers alike have to be aware of how products are made and where they were made. Vape pens have surged to new heights on the marijuana mountain by offering a portable and discreet way to consume THC or cannabidiol (CBD)-heavy concentrates.  The proof: Vape oil products made up a whopping 86% of the concentrate market in Colorado , Washington , and Oregon in 2018, and 71% of the concentrate sales in California , according to a May 2018 report by BDS Analytics.  But there have been serious health and safety concerns associated with vaping technology, first in the e-cigarette industry and later in the cannabis industry. Nearly three dozen young people in the upper Midwestern U.S. and California were hospitalized for severe respiratory problems after vaping nicotine or cannabis, The New York Times reported on Aug. 14, 2019. Three days a...

Kief is often dubbed “nature's concentrate,” but unlike other types of concentrates , it is both inexpensive and easy to make at home. Collecting kief on a budget Depending on your location, the price of a gram of flower fluctuates between under $7 and nearly $20. As my fellow dab lovers know, concentrated forms of cannabis offer a more intense and longer-lasting high than flower at a higher price point. According to WM News data , a gram of crumble has a median price of $37 and a gram of shatter has a median price of $40 Alternatively, kief is much cheaper with a median price of $15 per gram.  Collec...
