Kim Kardashian West Hosts CBD Baby Shower to 'Zen Out on A Saturday'

The most 2019 sentence ever written: Kim Kardashian West threw a CBD-themed baby shower. To welcome her fourth child with husband Kanye West via a surrogate, Kardashian West treated a small group of friends on April 27, 2019, to a veritable buffet of cannabidiol (CBD) products, followed by meditation and a 10-minute sound bath. It seemed to be a zen, understated party, by Kardashian standards. "I thought what better way to celebrate than to have a little CBD," Kardashian West said on Instagram .   View this post on Instagram   A post shared by Kim Kardashian Snapchat (@kimkardashiansnap) on Apr 27, 2019 at 10:26pm PDT CBD and parenting intersected in many ways throughout the shower: Kardashian's daughter North West, 5, and niece Penelope Disick, 6, joined in on the sound bath festivities. “I thought it was kind of ridiculous to have a fourth baby shower. But I thought I'm freaking the fuck out, having a fourth kid,” Kard...

House to Conduct Hearings for Veterans' Marijuana Access at End of April

In the latest sign that congressional Democrats are using their new majority to prioritize marijuana law reform issues that languished under prior Republican leadership, a House subcommittee has scheduled a hearing on April 30, 2019, to discuss three cannabis bills focusing on military veterans. The legislation up for consideration concerns veterans' access to medical marijuana, expanding research on cannabis's therapeutic value, and protecting U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) benefits for those using the drug in compliance with state law. It will be the second marijuana-related hearing of the 116th Congress, following a separate House committee's approval of a bill to protect banks that service cannabis businesses from being penalized by federal regulators. The House Veterans' Affairs Subcommittee on Health will take testimony on the VA Medicinal Cannabis Research Act, the Veterans Equal Access Act, and the Veterans Cannabis Use for Safe Healing Act. “The ...

Rapper Chief Keef Won't Be Jailed For Having Marijuana Edibles, For Now

A judge said rapper Chief Keef, who was arrested in Sioux Falls, South Dakota , in 2017 after marijuana edibles were found in his carry-on bag, can avoid jail time if he stays out of further legal trouble. Chief Keef, whose legal name is Keith Cozart, pleaded no contest April 26, 2019, to possession of a controlled substance. The plea wasn't an admission of guilt but is being treated as such for sentencing purposes. Judge Jon Sogn gave Chief Keef a suspended imposition of sentence, which means that no conviction will be entered if he keeps a clean record for one year. Other charges, including possession of marijuana, were dismissed. The rapper performed in Sioux Falls in June 2017 and was leaving when airport security found the edibles . Chief Keef, a 23-year-old Chicago native, lives in Los Angeles . The rapper received clout in the local underground scene after releasing popular mixtapes on the “drill” subgenre. Keef gained even more cult popularity among high school kids af...

Weed Party @: Hot Boxing at Spleef NYC's Speakeasy

Weed Party @ is a column by Michelle Lhooq and Lindsay MaHarry , two self-described “weed party girls.” The goal of the column is simple: Determine whether the party was cool. On March 29, 2019, Michelle went to Spleef , a private pop-up “speakeasy” in New York City. New York's weed speakeasies are one of the last shadow worlds this city has left. Going into a random office building in Midtown to drink THC cocktails has that whiff of illicit mystery often lacking in New York nightlife, which mostly takes place in established nightclubs rather than DIY warehouses these days. But weed speakeasies aren't just exciting because they're off the beaten path; they also represent a new way of socializing around cannabis instead of alcohol, and a glimpse into what the future of weed-centric nightlife might look like. With New York slowly inching towards legalization , these parties are also a great way to get to know the movers-and-shakers of the city's cannabis industry,...

Holland’s Half-Baked Attempt To Return To The Marijuana Vanguard

By Phillip Smith Beginning in the mid-1980s, Holland was the world’s marijuana mecca. Under the quite sensible policy of gedogen (pragmatic tolerance), Dutch authorities didn’t quite legalize marijuana but instead effectively turned a blind eye, allowing licensed retail establishments — the famous coffeeshops — to sell five grams or less of [read more] * This article was originally published here

Why Every Cannabis Company Needs to Know About and File IRS Form 8300

All across North America, the cannabis industry has been growing at an incredible rate, becoming a $10.4 billion industry in 2018 and on track to surpass $16 billion by the end of 2019. Despite those compelling numbers, many cannabis companies still struggle to access banking services, forcing many to conduct business using cash transactions.   The U.S. cannabis industry's all-cash status means there's a risk that some might stumble into the crosshairs of the Internal Revenue Service (IRS). But the IRS also has been sticking another thorn into the side of legal dispensaries and retailers. A brief, five-page document called Form 8300 has caused a significant amount of financial strife for a handful of cannabis-related businesses. Form 8300 (available as an interactive PDF) must be meticulously filled out every time a business receives more than $10,000 in cash from a single buyer over a single transaction or two or more related transactions in any running 12-month period. ...
